Having defined Modernism and postmodernism, I then describe in what sense both paradigms have failed. The article discusses the possibility of a new approach that circumvents such drawbacks and a kind of “third position” that build on the innovations that modernism initiated while suggesting an alternative mode of discourse that overcomes its potential extreme rationalism or extreme relativism.
